BIO
Joy Altman is an incredibly talented Singer, Actress and Tribute Artist. She has starred in Off Broadway productions, regionally and nationally, and has a wealth of performing experience headlining bands & shows for hotels, casinos, cruise ships, and country clubs, as well as making guest appearances for private and public events.
Joy was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised on Long Island. Discovered by renowned professional jingle writer/ composer Irv Dweir at the age of 9, she worked and recorded at Mastertone Recording Studios in NYC, performing voice-overs, portraying characters and singing jingles for The Peter Pan Record Company Educational Series, TV spots for Captain Kangaroo, and doing radio spots for commercials. Joy went on to study acting at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and The Cubiculo Theater, studied singing with acclaimed vocal coach, David Sorin-Collyer, commercial acting at Actors In Advertising, and movement at The Actors Movement Studio in NYC.
Over the years she continued fronting, lead singing and headlining bands and shows for various production companies in New York, such as Steven Scott Orchestras, Hank Lane Music, and Sy Laskin Orchestras, and after moving to Florida, with such companies as Big Beat Productions & Chase Music, while still continuing to earn and perform character roles in live musical theater productions.
Some of her credits include playing two of her favorite lead roles, her dream role of “Rose” in the musical GYPSY with music by Jule Styne, and the role of “Joanne” in the Stephen Sondheim musical COMPANY. With her more than two decades of live performing experience, Joy Altman is a dynamic, seasoned performer.
In addition to showcasing colorful tones, long, languorous notes, emotional expressiveness, and delicate phrasing, Joy also embodies great comedic timing, character creation, story- telling, and strong acting abilities. Her theatrical experience blends together perfectly with her incomparable vocal talents, skills and ability, allowing Joy to brilliantly re-create the characters made famous by Barbra Streisand in her film and stage career.
